Bridge House nestles below the majestic Drakenstein Mountains in the beautiful Berg River Valley, 10 minutes from Franschhoek, 20 minutes from Paarl and 25 mins from Stellenbosch on the open road with no traffic. This position offers a unique environment in which to learn combining the tranquil effects of the beautiful country setting with the benefit of being close to the city of Cape Town, only 50 minutes away via the N1 highway. Bridge House is a globally relevant and sustainable learning community, realising each individual's potential to lead, innovate and serve with confidence in a changing world. Bridge House's Mission Statement is founded on the following values. ("Means Values" reflect what values we in the school must demonstrate in order for our Bridge House students to embrace and live the "Ends Values")

Means Values

  • Honesty in all our dealings

  • Demonstrate forgiveness

  • Knowing self

  • Setting others free

  • Openness to new ideas

Ends Values

  • Integrity

  • Love and compassion

  • Health and Vitality

  • Positivity (a "Can Do" attitude)

  • Learning for Life

Situated on 28 hectares of land, the school has excellent facilities, including an indoor sports gymnasium where indoor hockey, netball, tennis and soccer are played, a pool for water polo and swimming, six tennis courts, mini tennis courts, two cricket ovals, a turf wicket and turf nets, netball courts, hockey, football and rugby fields. Biology and Science laboratories, Art Centres and Information Technology Centres are available for Prep and College. Music and Drama classrooms are housed in the Theatre building. The Learning Commons, which is a collaborative hub where pupils can develop essential learning and professional skills, is a recent addition to the campus. Four attractive and modern boarding houses for one hundred and sixty boarders provide 'home from home' family-style boarding on the campus, allowing pupils to experience the academic, cultural and sports programme to its fullest.

A broad, innovative and modern curriculum aimed at developing highly-motivated, balanced and competent young people, well prepared to deal with the challenges facing them when they leave school, is offered in the medium of English. Matrics write the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exams and the school has an excellent track record of results.

International Round Square Organisation

The school is a member of the International Round Square Organisation and is guided by the Organisation's six 'IDEALS' (Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service).  As a member of Round Square, Bridge House is part of a network of more than one hundred schools worldwide and so offers international exchange experiences and conferences to a large number of pupils.  Exchanges take place with countries all over the world in Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, North and South America.

The President's Award

The President's Award is a programme which seeks to encourage young people to chart their own path of self-discovery and growth.  The four components of Sport, Community Service, an Expedition and Skills and Interests are designed to provide a balanced experience of life.  Pupils in the Prep School undertake the Learning for Life Leadership Programme and the College pupils are registered for The President's Award at Bronze, Silver or Gold level.

Bridge House has a dynamic Music Department offering opportunities for group and individual participation. Tuition is offered in piano, keyboard, flute, clarinet, saxophone, recorder, guitar (electric and acoustic), violin, drums and voice and these can be taken as subjects or as extra-mural activities. Over the years the Bridge House Theatre has housed a varied and eclectic selection of theatrical productions of the highest standard, which aim to showcase the superb talent within the Drama department. These productions feature students who study Dramatic Arts as well as pupils who share a love for the theatre. Students not only perform, but also form part of the technical support team, who see to the sound and lighting requirements for productions. Bridge House is justifiably proud of its Art Room and visitors to the school are always impressed by its spaciousness and creative energy. Designed so that students can work both independently and under tutorage, it has two loft areas, two class areas, a dark room for black and white photography, a kiln housed in a separate building and an outside work area so that we can take advantage of good weather and amazing views.

A variety of team and individual sports such as hockey, football, netball, cricket, tennis, water polo, swimming, golf, mountain-biking and cross country are offered and pupils are expected to take part in at least one winter and one summer sport..
